A Complete Guide To How We Assemble The Field

  • The Grass Clippings Open field is made up of 54 teams.

  • The Top 30 teams (Tied 30th or better) from the previous Grass Clippings Open will receive 1 team exemption to play in the following year’s Grass Clippings Open.

    1. In the event a team splits up, the individuals must decide amongst themselves the ownership of the exemption. The player that is not using the exemption has an automatic exemption to the Grass Clippings Open – Qualifier. If neither individual elects to use either exemption, the team exemptions will be added to the number of qualifying spots.

    2. Each exempt team will receive a unique link to register for the Grass Clippings Open—the link and window to register will be valid for 48 hours after delivery.

  • Grass Clippings Open Champions receive a lifetime exemption. If a championship team decides to split, the standard exemption guidelines apply.

  • 4 team exemptions to GCO are reserved for Grass Clippings Open Tournament Committee.

  • 4 team exemptions to GCO are reserved for Grass Clippings Open Sponsors.

  • Billy’s Exemption: The owner of the winning team from the previous year’s Calcutta receives 1 team exemption. If the owner/person/team is already exempt to following year’s tournament via top 30 finish, that team exemption is void and added to the qualifying field.

The Qualifier

  • Teams that finished T31-54 in the previous Grass Clippings Open will receive an automatic exemption to the following year’s Grass Clippings Open Qualifier. 

  • The number of qualifying spots starts at 15—PLUS the amount of exempt teams that elect NOT to play and MINUS the amount of additional teams that Tied 30th in the previous year’s Grass Clippings Open.

  • 8 team exemptions to GCO Qualifier are reserved for Grass Clippings Open Tournament Committee.

  • The amount of qualifying spots will be announced before play begins.

  • Ties on the cut line are determined by a sudden-death playoff repeating hole 18.

    • The first two playoff holes is 2-person Scramble format.

    • All holes thereafter are alternate shot & alternate tee ball.

  • Grass Clippings Open tournament alternates are determined by the qualifying round’s results.
